Proof — one frame, one diagnosis

00:00:03.14
"Hey guys, so today I wanted to share…"
−41% viewers

This creator lost 41% of viewers at second three.

They open with a face, a greeting, and a setup. By the time the promise lands, most of the audience has already swiped. The video isn't bad. The hook is.

I would flag this as drop #1, rewrite the opening line as a specific tension, and propose a structural alternative that front-loads the payoff. That's the audit — three of these, with fixes you can hand to your editor.

Retention audit — 3 drops found

4/10
Hook score
Drop #1 00:03

Hook is a setup, not a payoff.

Viewers arrive expecting the value statement immediately. The first three seconds spend 2.1s on a greeting and a generic "today I want to…" framing. By the time the actual topic surfaces at 0:02.4, the swipe instinct has already fired.

Fix

Open on the single most concrete sentence: "I tested 14 hooks last month — only one of them worked." Cut the greeting entirely. Move the face to 0:03, after the promise.

Drop #2 00:18

Pacing lull — 4.2s of single-angle talking head.

The mid-section holds one static shot for too long. No cut, no B-roll, no visual punctuation. Attention decays predictably after 3–4 seconds of unchanged framing on a single face.

Fix

Insert a 0.6s cutaway or pattern-interrupt at 0:17 — a re-framed close-up, a single graphic, or a text callout of the next sentence. The energy reset costs one frame and recovers 6–10% mid-video retention.

Drop #3 00:38

CTA arrives before the payoff.

The verbal "follow for part 2" lands at 0:38, but the actual reveal closes at 0:44. The follow request fires while the viewer is still waiting for what they came for — which reads as a friction event, not a value transfer.

Fix

Move the CTA to 0:46, after the payoff. Replace the verbal follow with an on-screen loop-bait ("wait for the twist at the end") so the request feels like an invitation, not a transaction.

Rewritten hook (script)

"14 hooks tested. 13 flopped. The one that worked starts with a number, a verb, and a concrete promise — and that's exactly what we're about to do."

Why this video leaked

Pattern across the three drops: the edit spends energy on the wrong moments. Setup, not payoff. Static, not rhythmic. Transactional, not invitational. Three cuts fix all three.

How it works

01 — Send

You send the video.

A link (Google Drive, Dropbox, IG, TikTok URL) or a file. Add a screenshot of your retention graph from Insights if you have it. One message is enough.

02 — I watch

I watch it twice.

Once as a viewer. Once as the editor I'd want on the project — frame by frame, timestamp by timestamp. I take notes. No AI, no shortcuts.

03 — You receive

PDF in 24 hours.

The audit document lands in your inbox — three drops, three fixes, one rewritten hook, one structural alternative. Optional 5-min Loom walkthrough if you want context.

Honest fit check

For you, or not for you.

This works if…

  • You post 4+ short-form videos a week and you've hit a plateau you can't diagnose.
  • You can tell me your current average views and average watch time — even roughly.
  • You either edit yourself or have an editor who can implement the fixes I recommend.
  • You've published 10+ videos and have a baseline worth optimizing.
  • You're willing to act on hard truths about your current content.

This doesn't work if…

  • You post fewer than 2 videos a week — the volume isn't there yet.
  • You want me to edit the fixes for you — that's a different (and pricier) service.
  • You haven't published anything yet — there's no baseline to compare against.
  • You're looking for a generic "top 10 tips" list rather than video-specific diagnosis.
  • You want a guarantee on view counts — no honest auditor promises those.

Questions you'll actually ask

FAQ.

What do you actually need from me?
One video and your retention graph. A public link or a file (Google Drive, Dropbox, or directly uploaded) plus a screenshot of the retention curve from your platform's Insights tab — Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube Studio. If you don't have the graph, I'll still audit, but the numbers help me calibrate the diagnosis against your specific baseline.
Do you use AI to do the audit?
No. AI tools exist for this and they are cheap for a reason — they give generic advice drawn from the average of every video on the internet. I watch your video myself, frame by frame, and tie every diagnosis to a specific timestamp and a specific edit in your cut. If you want an AI tool, Retti, Retensis, or Prismiq Amplify will get you 80% there for $15–$50/mo. The audit exists because the last 20% is where the views actually live.
My video is in Thai / Khmer / Vietnamese. Does that matter?
No — I audit the editing, not the language. I'm based in Bangkok and work across Thai, Khmer, and English natively. Pacing, hook structure, pattern interrupts, caption timing, and CTA placement all read the same regardless of the language on screen. If you want language-specific copy feedback in addition to the audit, note it in the booking form and I'll quote a small add-on.
What if I don't agree with what you find?
The audit is yours regardless. If the top 3 retention drops I identify don't match the largest dips in your retention graph, I'll redo the audit for free or refund you in full — your call. I don't do follow-up sales calls, I don't gate the deliverable behind a "let's discuss it" call, and I don't make the audit conditional on hiring me for anything else. You keep the PDF either way.
Can my agency white-label this for our clients?
Yes, with a white-label add-on. +$500/mo on the retainer tier covers up to 10 client accounts, your branding on the PDF, and a Slack channel for your account managers. This is for agencies with at least 5 active short-form clients — if you're smaller, the standard channel audit is a better starting point.
What happens after I book?
You get a confirmation email within a few hours with a payment link and a request for your video file or link. Once I have the video and payment, the 24-hour clock starts. The audit lands in your inbox as a PDF. If you want a 5-minute Loom walkthrough on top, that's included for single audits and channel audits; monthly retainer clients get the monthly call instead.
